This year, the Borneo Bird Festival 2022 returns following a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic.
On October 22 and 23, the Borneo Bird Festival 2022 will be held in the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sepilok, Sandakan with more than 5,000 bird watchers from the region expected to participate.
Additionally, Tourism Malaysia Sabah and the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club (SBBC) will collaborate on a fun bird-watching guide to see whether it can become a specialised tourism offering and attract high-quality visitors.
The birding hotspots in Sabah will be highlighted in the guide, including Kinabalu Park, Kinabatangan Floodplains, Danum Valley, Tabin, and Sepilok woods.
66 indigenous bird species in Borneo, such as the Bornean Bristlehead, Blue-Headed Pitta, Bornean Ground-Cuckoo, Whitehead’s Trogon, Whitehead’s Spider Hunter, and Crimson-Headed Wood-Partridge, are found exclusively in Sabah.
