CapitaLand Investment Limited’s wholly owned lodging business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), has secured a contract from Suiwah Corporation Berhad’s wholly owned subsidiary, Crimson Omega Sdn Bhd, to manage Ascott’sfirst HARRIS branded hotel in Penang.
A signing ceremony held recently was officiated by Guest-of-Honour YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy. Slated to open in 2023, HARRIS Sunshine Penang is located close to attractions such as the Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill.
Guests at HARRIS Sunshine Penang will also enjoy convenient access to various dining, retail, and lifestyle outlets in Sunshine Central, a mixed-use development with an integrated live, shop, work and play environment.
What To Expect At HARRIS Sunshine Penang
The 289-room HARRIS Sunshine Penang will offer studio, one-bedroom and dual-key two-bedroom units to cater to the different needs of guests. HARRIS Sunshine Penang will be the first hotel in Air Itam with the largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) facilities.

The hotel will be equipped to host large-scale events such as weddings and conferences by boasting a ballroom that spans over 33,500 sq ft along with a pre-function area.

Additional facilities within the hotel include a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a business lounge, function rooms, and an all-day dining restaurant. Ascott’s other HARRIS-branded hotel in Malaysia, HARRIS Hotel Putrajaya Sentral, is scheduled to open in 2025.
Ascott is one of the largest lodging owner-operators in Malaysia with 26 properties in 11 cities. This includes 14 properties that are slated to open between 2022 and 2027 across 7 cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Shah Alam, Damansara, Penang, Melaka, Miri and Kota Kinabalu.
These properties will be tailored for different market segments across Ascott’s award-winning brands such as Ascott, Somerset, Citadines, lyf and HARRIS.
