1 Utama Shopping Centre has just presented its Once Upon A Stage to introduce its latest space, Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC).
This specially curated event featured performances by prominent players of the industry including Joanne Kam, Syed Zalihafe, Dama Asia, Hands Percussion, Mad G Dance Crew, Kenny Shim Co, Lee Swee Keong, Zamzuriah Zahari & BaiZam Generation and Performing Arts CCA UiTM led by Professor Norzizi.
This event not only launches a brand new creative space but also showcased the best in Malaysian talent with the script by Ghafir Akbar, artistic direction by acclaimed Malaysian Director Dato’ Zahim Albakri, produced by Wyn Hee, stage managed by the experienced Pat Gui with the assistance of Hamidon Ab Hamid, Zaidi bin Kamaruzaman, and Al-Hafiz as well as lighting engineer Ee Chee Wei, and sound engineer Tim Low.
Once Upon A Stage celebrates PJPAC with avid fans and practitioners of live performing arts and purveyors of events, whilst also highlighting PJPAC’s technical capabilities through a lineup of specially produced performances that include the multiple genres of theatre, music, dance and more.
Fully owned and operated by 1 Utama and situated inside 1 Utama’s newest extension, 1 Utama E, PJPAC comprises a 684-seater, fully equipped proscenium theatre (Stage 1 Theatre), a black box (Nero Event Space) as well as a talent and creative incubator space (1ncubator).
Its objective is to provide premium quality spaces and facilities and to cultivate gifted performers and talent from the arts, social media and entertainment industries. PJPAC is also able to cater for corporate and commercial events including private shows, launches, conferences and events.
PJPAC strives to improve the creative and cultural opportunities for all Malaysians, empowering communities to flourish by maximizing participation in the engaging, inspiring and entertaining cultural life of our city.
Stage 1 Theatre @ PJPAC
Malaysia’s newest proscenium theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and versatile acoustic architecture, which includes a 10m x 5m P3.9 LED screen, Follow Spot tracking system called Follow-Me that utilises moving heads as spotlights with the ability to have a tracking pack on specific talent on stage or control the spotlight movement using a joystick, and 40 bars of active counter-weight fly system that allows for multiple set changes and even flying someone across the stage.
The 970sqm space seats a total of 684 and is the largest proscenium theatre in Selangor.
Nero Event Space
An experimental black box theatre with modular seating platforms to accommodate your event requirements.
Suitable for small-to-mid scale productions, events and functions, this 330sqm space can hold up to 200 seating or 300 standing audience members.
The Pre-Function Lobby is perfect for press meets, pre-function cocktails, art exhibitions, product launches and more.
The Gallery is PJPAC’s unconventional gallery space with modular hanging systems for unique exhibition setups.
The Lounge on Level 3 is a unique alfresco area that provides a more private and exclusive setting.
Since April 2021, PJPAC has hosted numerous corporate events of well-known international and local brands including Samsung, Malaysia Airlines, and Astro, which involved transforming our spaces into customised and memorable functions.
No stranger to the theatre community, PJPAC has also played host to drama and dance productions from Liver and Lung, Iron Gang Puppet Theatre, Pan Productions, and live music performances from notable acts such as Hujan, Kuala Lumpur City Opera, and Dolla.
